Keeping it Local
Made by a hobbyist for the hobbyist. As a chemical engineer and a coral-growing hobbyist himself, Luca Martino recognized a need in the marketplace for high end lighting at an affordable price. In response, he has designed and engineered this line of lights right in his home state of Wisconsin.
From the Beginning
In 2019, Luca Martino started questioning reef tank lighting, the options on the market, the high cost of LED lights, and the complicated light-controlling apps. He soon realized that there was a need for innovation and cost reduction in the LED lighting market. Luca continued to study the advantages and disadvantages of several lighting types he already owned: metal halide, T-5, and LED.
The Work Continues
The following year, Luca began building his own LED lights. His work focused on improving spectrum blending by using different combinations of LEDs and experimenting with design. By analyzing the failures, he became obsessed with thermal management which led to a pivotal moment in mastering LED lighting technology. By mid-2020, Luca had built an R&D setup that pumped out quality, trusted data (and soon showed the need for a larger testing facility). In early ‘22, a complete light-testing, aquaculture facility was created to simulate the harshest conditions.
Errors Make Successes
Luca’s lighting inspiration came from T-5 and metal halide lights, but concerned with the tightening regulations surrounding mercury in these bulbs, he kicked his LED development into high gear. Luca’s goal was to be different, not preconceived. Through trial and error, Luca began engineering and building his line of simple, efficient, and fully waterproof lights.
The Big Question
Why not elevate LED lighting performance and offer options that outperform and redefine expectations for a T-5 or Metal Halide replacement? By producing such a light – coverage, spectral blending, and outright spectrum – Luca soon found his place in the reef lighting market. Minimize disco effect, no fake spectrums that don’t match up in real-world testing, and no compromises. His vision was soon realized: build affordable, simple, yet premium, LED lights that offer pick-and-choose spectrums and provide a blanket of blended light.
The Principles

Quanta Lights better emulate natural seawater light, meaning fewer reds and more violet and cyan. They represent the most applicable spectrums for the reefing aquarist, designed to complement each other.
